Welcome Back

Another year has gone– where do they go? Bernina recently released a new range of machines– the 500 series to replace our beloved 440,430 range and a new look range of Bernettes. By now you would have already seen these on the internet or in store. The internet allows us to keep “up to the minute”. We keep our regular Bernina Club ladies up to date with all the latest news during our club days– however, this isn't enough these days so we are also asking you to check us out on Facebook. facebook.com/berninachatswood .Our aim is to let you know all the latest news, products, classes, changes, specials and ideas. Plus images of Bernina Club projects, class projects and show and tell projects.

Tessuti Fashion Awards

Bernina Chatswood sponsors Tessuti Fashion Awards every year. First prize is a trip to New York/London and second prize, a Bernina overlocker. Entries and preliminary judging is done online around September. Linen and lace sundress was the design brief .This competition is open to everyday sewers and it was great to see some younger school age entrants. In 2011 the winner of the overlocker was Victoria Nguyen from Melbourne. Patchwork on Pittwater and Saffron Craig

Robyn Evans had an official opening of her new studio in Mona Vale with Saffron Craig as her special guest. Saffron Craig is an Australian fabric designer, with a fashion background so this explains why her fabrics are gorgeous for quilts, dressmaking and soft furnishings. Robyn is very supportive of Australian designers and has created some magnificent quilts using Saffron's fabrics. She carries a large selection of these fabrics. Robyn has a great eye for colour and has a knack of creating simple quilts with a twist that makes them unique. You will find her very patient and helpful. Paper Quilt Creations

Michaela Laurie in conjunction with Bernina ran workshops at several Craft shows last year. She brings together the joys of paper craft with a love of sewing. Michaela’s work was loved by all. Our November Bernina Club touched on some of her techniques and we

have convinced her to come and do some workshops here for us at Chatswood, we will keep you posted on Facebook.

Teachers Only Classes

Several years ago we introduced a freehand embellishment demonstration in response to the many enquiries from students and teachers. This has been very successful .We have extended this idea to include teachers only ‘Hands On’ Overlocking workshops and Advanced Sewing techniques.

We will be offering them again this year. Please ring the store or check the time table. If you have any thoughts on what other classes we can offer, ring Julie at the store.

Basic Sewing Classes / Beginner Sewers

We are often asked by customers “where can we do basic sewing classes?” We run a basic zipper class that is very popular. This is run by Lynette and is hands on . The class is a regular dress zip, invisible and fly front zip.

Letty Larosa-runs beginners to advanced classes at her well appointed studio in Forestville week days. She caters for ages 15 plus, Textiles and fashion students on Saturdays

Tessuti -runs a beginners class and bring your own project. School Holiday classes are also available. Georgie, the teacher is very patient. To book go to Tessuti web site.

Sharon Tunks-runs classes from her home studio, day and night, plus classes at Narrabeen Sports High during school term in the night, as part of Northern Beaches Evening College. Sharon’s no.0414900914

Bernina Club Benefits

We have recently had many new members joining, so for your benefit we will outline what Bernina club can do for you.

Our club session times are listed above and we do ask that you ring and book in so that we can make sure the numbers are even for each session.

Bernina Club membership is only $55. You can join at any time and your membership is a full 12 months from that date. Membership entitles you to 10% discount off all accessories, threads, needles & haberdashery every day of the week.

On club day we have extra specials for you and 20% discount off items & accessories relevant to the project for that month. Each month we demonstrate a new technique or a project for you to try using lots of different sewing feet and accessories to stimulate your interest and help you get the most out of your sewing machine and overlocker. Meetings are friendly & informal and you will find yourself forming new and lasting friendships.
